El Niño and Its Effects on Food Supply Chains
A strengthening El Niño could bring drought, flooding, extreme heat and other risks that can affect crop yields and supply chains.
Climate events aren’t new, but an El Niño compounds on an already stressed supply chain due to restrictions and increased prices. Agriculture could be especially affected due to impacts on yields and quality.
Australia and southern Brazil are currently seeing some emerging risks with increased dryness in Australia and excessive rainfall in Brazil’s wheat belt.
The full impact to crop yields and quality may not become clear until later in the season.
